2010 NFL Season
Second-year head coach Mike Singletary is looking to get his team into the playoffs for the first time since 2002. After breaking even last season, the Niners made a move before the draft, trading a 5th round pick for WR Ted Gin Jr. but need help in other positions as well. With LT Joe Staley firmly in place until 2017, the team now needs to compliment the right side that was a boon for QB Alex Smith who was sacked 22 times losing 134 yards in the process.
The team has signed QB David Carr and TE Tony Curtis as well as franchised NT Aubrayo Franklin. In the draft, the Niners two first round picks at 13 and 17. In the most recent mock drafts, CB and top 10 product Joe Haden keeps dropping and the franchise would be very lucky to be able to draft such a player.
2009 NFL Season
The 2009 49ers team that was fielded should have made an impact in the league. The team re-signed Shaun Hill to a three-year deal, added free agents Justin Smith, J.T. O’Sullivan and Issac Bruce. The acquisition of QB O’Sullivan was an insurance policy in case Alex Smith could not fully recover from a separated shoulder suffered in game four of the 07/08 season. On October 20 of 2008, the franchise severed ties with Head Coach Mike Nolan and promoted Assistant Head Coach Mike Singletary to the HC position. The former Bears Hall of Famer would lead his team to a 5-4 record and management was confident they found their man in Singletary. At the conclusion of the season, Offensive Coordinator Mike Martz was fired. |
